The steady growth of social media as communication platform and multi-dimensional tool, irrespective of the existing infrastructures, has created both an opportunity for policymakers to leverage these tools for development, and a need to create frameworks and guidelines to best maximize their use.
National Training on ICT for Development Policy, Process and Governance in Lao People's Democratic Republic

The Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications and APCICT/ESCAP co-organized the National Training on Women ICT Frontier Initiative (WIFI): An Enabling Environment for Women Entrepreneurs on 4 - 5 July 2019 in Vientiane.
This workshop informed policymakers and supported their policymaking skills with gender-related knowledge to create an enabling environment for ICT-empowered women entrepreneurs.

In cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports and the National One Village One Product Committee under the Council for Agricultural and Rural Development, APCICT co-organised the National Workshop; An Overview of ICTs and Sustainable Development. This workshop was held on 2 May 2019 at the Office of the Council of Ministers in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
In collaboration with the National Institute of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Communication Technology, APCICT co-organised the National Training of Trainers on Data-Driven Governance on 30 April - 3 May 2019 at the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications in Cambodia.
ESCAP organised a National Consultation on Enabling Environment for Women’s Entrepreneurship in Cambodia on 29 April 2019 followed by a National Training for Policymakers on ICT and Women Entrepreneurship on 30 April 2019.
APCICT has launched a new online course on “Realizing Data-Driven Governance” available at the Centre’s distance learning platform, APCICT Virtual Academy (http://e-learning.unapcict.org/). The course is designed for government officials in developing countries to help them understand data-driven governance - the intensive and extensive use of data in how societies organize to define and achieve their common future - and assist them in using data-driven governance in their jurisdictions.
The Philippines National Launch and Training of Trainers on Data-Driven Governance was held in Manila on 26-28 February 2019, marking the first national roll-out of APCICT’s latest Academy Module on “Realizing Data-Driven Governance”. This module was developed to inform policymakers and civil servants on the role of accurate, accessible, timely and reliable data in enhancing governance, formulating national policies and strategies, and delivering services.
