UN-APCICT co-organized the "Regional Training of Trainer’s Workshop on Paperless Transit Transport Facilitation" in Incheon on 30 June - 01 July 2015 with ESCAP’s Transport Division.
To deepen connectivity and increase intra-regional trade, this meeting aimed to raise awareness and strengthen capacities on paperless cross-border transit systems, particularly for landlocked developing countries (LLDCs) and transit countries. Participants shared their experiences and best practices on securing reliable and efficient transit transport.
In July 2015, APCICT organized two capacity building initiatives on ICT for development targeted to senior government officials and professors from institutions of higher learning of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar.
UN-APCICT presents importance of ICT human capacity building at the Pacific ICT Ministerial Meeting 2015
APCICT participated in the Pacific ICT Ministerial Meeting 2015 & Pacific ICT Officials' Meeting, 17-19 June 2015 in Nuku’alofa, Tonga.
The Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) launched the Academy of ICT Essentials for Government Leaders in the ESCWA Region (AIGLE)on 8 June 2015 in Beirut, Lebanon.
APCICT participated in the launch via online conference call and shared the Centre’s experience in institutionalizing its ICT human capacity development programmes. Following the AIGLE launch, ESCWA conducted a 5-day Regional Training-of-Trainers with AIGLE.
The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) meets annually at the ministerial level to discuss and decide on important issues pertaining to inclusive and sustainable economic and social development in the region.
The WIFI (Women and ICT Frontier Initiative) Programme is a new initiative of APCICT that aims to develop the capacity of women entrepreneurs in using information and communication technology (ICT).
The programme has been developed to support the realization of the new sustainable development agenda, including gender equity and inclusive economic growth.
UN-APCICT strengthens capacity of the Government of the Kingdom of Bhutan on using social media for development and governance
On 14-17 April 2015, the Government of the Kingdom of Bhutan and UN-APCICT/ESCAP are co-organizing the Capacity Building Programme on Social Media for Development and Governance. The programmeis being undertaken in cooperation with the country’s Ministry of Information and Communications.
The activity marks an important step in deepening the understanding of country’s government leaders and policymakers on the potential of social media for sustainable socio-economic development and good governance.
In an effort to foster multi-stakeholder dialogue and exchange of experiences on how to effectively utilize social media in the different phases of disaster risk management, APCICT organized the “Expert Group Meeting on Social Media for Disaster Risk Management” on 7-8 April 2015 in Incheon, Republic of Korea.
The workshop was attended 22 government officials, communication and media experts, ICTD and social media experts and DRR practitioners in Asia and the Pacific.
On 24 March 2015, the Government of Lao People’s Democratic Republic and UN-APCICT/ESCAP launched the Academy of ICT Essentials for Government Leaders (Academy) in Vientiane. The launch event was co-organized with the country’s Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications.
On 16 February, the United Nations Asian and Pacific Training Centre for Information and Communication Technology for Development (UN-APCICT) will organize an Online Expert Group Meeting on Social Media for Development.
