Under the CESB's Executive Leadership Programme, a training course was held on 16-23 July 2009 in Naga City, Philippines, which included a track dedicated to the Filipino version of APCICT's Academy of ICT Essentials for Government Leaders.

APCICT’s “Academy of ICT Essentials for Government Leaders” that comprises a comprehensive ICT for development curriculum had been adapted by the Philippines Career Executive Service Board (CESB) to suit the needs of Filipino senior government officials, and fully integrated into its residential Executive Leadership Programme.

On 16-23 July 2009, the modified 2.5-day intensive national Academy training was organized as part of its week-long "Gabay ng Paglilingkod" training course under the Executive Leadership Programme. Original Academy authors from the Philippines delivered the training.

The training was participated by 51 key government officials who have the potential to move the ICT for development agenda in their government agencies. Currently there is a huge demand for Academy training among senior government officials. As a result, a similar Academy training workshop is planned for September 2009.

The CESB is responsible for setting standards and defining competencies and training needs of about 6,000 directors, managers and highest career-level government positions. It has included a customized Academy in its roster of courses for government agencies and in its residential Executive Leadership Programme. The national Academy is a fully credited programme of CESB awarding participants 40 credit hours, which is the total training hours required per year for career executives. CESB has also included an ICT component in its qualifying examination for potential career executives, incorporating twenty questions extracted from the Academy modules.

This Filipino version of the Academy was developed earlier this year and tested at a pilot national Academy workshop held in October 2008 with 30 senior government officials from the Philippines to solicit feedback on the course content and delivery methodology. Subsequently, authors of the Academy training modules and local resource people from CESB customized the Academy modules and added local case studies to meet training needs and increase the relevancy of the course. On 17-19 February, an inaugural national training of trainers workshop took place in Tagaytay City.
