This month APCICT supports regional training on information security, ICT capacity building programme for women in the APEC region, and national Academy workshop in Afghanistan. The Centre will also be launching an online distance learning platform - the APCICT Virtual Academy.
APCICT Supports Regional Training on Information Security (11-15 May)
The United Nations Asian and Pacific Training Centre for Information and Communication Technology for Development (APCICT), a subsidiary body of ESCAP, is supporting the 2009 Asia Pacific Information Security Training organized by the Korea Information Security Agency on 11-15 May 2009 in Seoul, Republic of Korea. This five-day training programme will see the participation of 30 security experts and ICT senior officers from 20 Asia-Pacific countries. In addition to learning about computer incident response, and the establishment and operation of Computer Security Incident Response Teams, participants will also have the opportunity to share and explore security issues pertinent to their country experience, as well as discuss strategies for building national capacity in information security and privacy.
APCICT Strengthens the ICT Capacity of Women in the APEC Region (11-15 May)
At the request of Indonesia’s Ministry of Women’s Empowerment (MOWE), APCICT is providing advisory support in designing and delivering a training programme on 11-15 May 2009 in Jakarta, Indonesia, in partnership with the Korean Ministry of Gender (MOGE) and the Korea Productivity Center. The training is part of MOGE’s IT Capacity Building Programme for Women in the APEC Region that started in 2003. Select training materials from APCICT’s flagship initiative – the Academy of ICT Essentials for Government Leaders – that focus on ways in which ICTs can be leveraged for women’s empowerment and the promotion of gender equality will be used for this training programme. The Academy modules will also provide the knowledge and tools to mainstream gender issues in ICT project management. The training workshop will be participated by Indonesian government officials from central and provincial government agencies. A similar capacity building partnership in 2007 was attended by over 40 Indonesian women government officials.
APCICT Supports National Academy Training Workshop on ICT for Government Leaders in Afghanistan (31 May – 4 June)
As part of APCICT’s Academy of ICT Essentials for Government Leaders Programme, a national training of trainers workshop will be held in Kabul, Afghanistan on 31 May – 4 June 2009. This is the first in a series of workshops that will be held in Afghanistan as part of the National Academy Programme. The workshop is co-organized with Afghanistan’s Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (MCIT), and targeted at high and mid-level government officials who will serve as trainers to replicate the workshop in other parts of the country. The workshop will cover two of the eight Academy modules focusing on the linkages between ICT and the Millennium Development Goals, and on ICT for development policy, process and governance. Local resource persons at MCIT have customized the modules and added local case studies to meet training needs and increase the relevancy of the course in Afghanistan. The modules are also being translated into Dari and Pashto, the official languages of Afghanistan.
APCICT Launches Online Distance Learning Platform to Support the Academy of ICT Essentials for Government Leaders (31 May)
The Academy of ICT Essentials for Government Leaders’ online distance learning platform – the APCICT Virtual Academy (AVA) will be officially launched on 31 May 2009. This platform offers easy access to the training materials in all eight Academy modules, including virtual lectures, presentations and assessment tools, all released as open educational resources. Trainers can access AVA to download training materials for their own use, and learners can take each module as a self-paced online course, with a certificate of participation accorded at the successful completion of the course.
