The Role of ICT in Social Capital Construction of Rural Female Entrepreneurship

In this paper, ICT is proposed to create or strengthen social capital of rural female entrepreneurs. A model of the impact of ICT on rural female social capital and self-employment was founded under the framework of social capital theory and entrepreneurship theory. A field survey conducted in Liaoling province was reported to support the propositions by the author.

Using distance education and ICT to improve access, equity and the quality in rural teachers’ professional development in western China

The goal of ‘teacher quality for all’ is proving difficult to achieve in many countries, especially in rural areas, yet teacher quality is a key determinant of students’ participation rates and achievement levels. It also affects the attainment of social justice in terms of equity in educational quality for students. One contributor to teacher quality is professional development though limits on its availability and quality create inequity for many teachers.

Regional Human Development Report – Promoting ICT for Human Development in Asia: Realising the Millennium Development Goals

The report’s unique approach lies in its use of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) to measure and monitor the impact of information and communication technologies (ICTs) on human development. The report examines country-specific experiences in China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mongolia, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Viet Nam, and provides cross-country comparisons on the use of ICTs to achieve the MDGs.
