UN-APCICT presents on the role of social media in citizen engagement for urban development and growth

On November 5, UN-APCICT will make a presentation on the role that social media has in engaging citizens for urban development and growth at the 3rd WeGo General Assembly.

On November 5, UN-APCICT will make a presentation on the role that social media has in engaging citizens for urban development and growth at the 3rd WeGo General Assembly, which is being held from 3-6 Nov. in Chengdu.

Organized under the theme of Engaging Citizens: Open, Sharing and Collaborative Cities, the event has brought together over 200 participants from government, international organizations, research institutes and IT companies to share knowledge and experiences on different topics of e-government. To contribute to this discussion, UN-APCICT will present on the ways in which social media can be used by governments to engage citizens as well as to create a culture of transparency, openness, sharing and collaboration. Through the presentation, UN-APCICT seeks to raise awareness on the potential that social media possesses for connecting government and citizens, enhancing communication and facilitating collaboration.

Organized every two years, the WeGO General Assembly brings together officials of cities and local governments, representatives from international organizations, research institutes and IT companies to share knowledge on and discuss challenges in e-Government.
