On 20-22 February, the United Nations Asian and Pacific Training Centre for Information and Communication Technology for Development (UN-APCICT) is organizing a Training of Trainers (TOT) workshop on information and communication technology for development (ICTD) project management in partnership with Qafqaz University, in Baku, Azerbaijan.
This TOT responds to the growing importance of ICTD project management capacity, as exemplified by the Word Bank’s portfolio. In 2014 over 74% of the World Bank’s 1,700 active projects had ICT components. The value of this portfolio has grown from about $500 million in 2006 to approximately $1.7 billion in 2014. Based on the 2nd issue of UN-APCICT’s “Primer Series on ICTD for Youth”, the TOT aims to strengthen the pool of resource persons in Azerbaijan who can advocate for and deliver training on ICTD project management. Professors, trainers and graduate students from universities and institutions in Azerbaijan will participate. The TOT builds on Qafqaz University’s successful implementation of Primer Series 1 “An Introduction to ICT for Development”. The university recently localized Primer Series 1 into Azeri, furthering its institutionalization and making the capacity building resource available to a wider audience. The localization of Primer Series 2 is planned after the upcoming workshop.
