Call for Papers

In line with the regional ICT for Development situational analysis and the mandate provided to APCICT to build the capacities of ICT policymakers and practitioners within the region, APCICT is collaborating with the Korea Information Society Development Institute (KISDI) to develop and disseminate a quarterly journal entitled 'ICT World Today across the region.

Objectives
The 3 key objectives are as follows:

  • To highlight relevant ICT for Development (ICT4D) news, trends, case studies and research and with a focus on how ICTs when applied effectively within a development context provides a unique opportunity to assist countries achieve their national development goals and the MDGs.
  • Provide an opportunity for members of the UN-APCICT Digital Partnership Network to share and promote their ICT for Development research and events to their peers and practitioners across the world and indirectly enhance their visibility and national experiences.

Target Audience
The journal is targeted specifically for policy makers, civil society organizations, national training institutes of developing countries, universities, and international development organizations.

Editorial Scope and Structure

  • The journal will feature guest columnists and also research information extracted from relevant and credible periodical publications on ICT for development from domestic and international ICT institutes such as UN agencies, ETRI, KDI, IDC, IDRC, ELDIS, Global Information Society Watch, etc.
  • Each Edition of the Journal will feature the following proposed structure:
  • Guest Columns
  • ICT in Our Economy & Society: Its Role and Current Situation
  • Global Digital Divide: Identifying and Bridging Digital Divide
  • ICT News and Events
  • Measuring the Information Society

Publisher and Editorial Committee

  • APCICT and KISDI are currently functioning as the Editorial Committee and are responsible for the publishing of the materials.

Submissions of Papers
For the inaugural edition, APCICT is seeking contribution in the form of original papers, related to ICT for Development. The focus will be on capacity building initiatives undertaken within a specific country within the Asia-Pacific region.

Paper submission: 15 January 2008
Peer review period: 1 February 2008
Final version submission: 15 February 2008

Format
In English, 4000 words maximum in ODF or Microsoft Word doc file format.
