Incheon, Republic of Korea - 01 Dec 2010

Bali, Indonesia is the site of two APCICT organized events in December: the National Workshop in Indonesia of the “Academy of ICT Essentials for Government Leaders Programme”; and the Fifth Session of the Governing Council of APCICT-ESCAP.

APCICT Partners with Indonesian Government and University to Enhance ICT Capacity

The Asian and Pacific Training Centre for Information and Communication Technology for Development (UN-APCICT/ESCAP), a regional institute of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, will organize a National Workshop in Bali, Indonesia, from 30 November to 2 December, to equip government officials with the necessary skills to fully leverage ICT opportunities for socio-economic development.

APCICT will deliver curriculum from its flagship programme, the “Academy of ICT Essentials for Government Leaders” (Academy), in collaboration with the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (MCIT) of Indonesia and the University of Indonesia. Fifty senior government officials from the provincial government of Bali will receive training on the first three modules of the Academy: 1) The Linkage between ICT Applications and Meaningful Development; 2) ICT for Development Policy, Process and Governance; and 3) e-Government Applications. Workshop participants will also participate in a fieldtrip to Denpasar City, to experience first-hand an e-Government project site in Indonesia.

The workshop training will be delivered in Bahasa Indonesian.  APCICT’s Indonesian Academy partners translated the entire curriculum into Bahasa Indonesia in 2009.  The Academy currently consists of eight standalone, yet interlinked training modules that cover a wide range of ICT for development topics.

The National Workshop will mark the sixth time APCICT has partnered with MCIT and the University of Indonesia to deliver Academy training to Indonesian government officials. The Academy programme was launched in Jakarta, Indonesia in March, 2009.

APCICT Convenes its 5th Governing Council Meeting in Indonesia
