In March APCICT will extend its ICT capacity building programmes to more beneficiaries in Asia and Pacific Island Countries.

APCICT to provide ICTD trainings for Pacific region educators and officials

The Asian and Pacific Training Centre for Information and Communication Technology for Development, (UN-APCICT/ESCAP), will partner with the University of the South Pacific (USP) to roll-out the “Primer Series on ICTD for Youth” (Primer Series) over a two-day training of trainers workshop in Suva, Fiji on 12-13 March.

The workshop will welcome over 30 participants including 14 Directors and Deans from USP’s 14 campuses, a number of professors and lecturers from USP’s Laucala campus, and 6 Trainers from Fiji’s Continuing Education Programme. The workshop participants will receive training on the Primer Series on ICTD for Youth, which APCICT has developed to help educators strengthen ICT for development topics in institutions of higher learning.

The Primer Series workshop will be preceded by a briefing session on the “Academy of ICT Essentials for Government Leaders” (Academy) programme for officials of the Pacific Islands Centre for Public Administration (PICPA) and USP administrators and professors. The Academy is APCICT’s flagship capacity building programme targeting government officials and development practitioners.

 

APCICT to deliver ICTD for Youth workshop in Sri Lanka

APCICT will continue the roll-out of the Primer Series in island countries with a TOT workshop in Kukulenganga, Sri Lanka on 21-22 March. Organized in partnership with the Ministry of Higher Education, the workshop will bring together over 60 professors from 15 universities. The participants will serve as resource persons and champions of the Primer Series in their respective universities and institutions, with plans to implement the Primer Series content into university curricula for the start of the new academic year in September, 2012.

 

APCICT and Maldives partner to launch ICT capacity building programmes

Also this month, APCICT, in partnership with the Maldives National University, will organize two separate workshops between 26-29 March in Male, Maldives. The TOT workshop on 26-28 will mark the launch of the Primer Series in the Maldives. Over 30 professors, trainers and Masters students from universities and institutions in the Maldives are expected to attend the workshop.

APCICT will concurrently organize a briefing session and workshop on the latest module of the Academy programme, Module 9, ‘ICT for Disaster Risk Management’, and upcoming Module 10, ‘ICT and Climate Change’. Around 60 senior policy makers will attend the briefing session and over 30 government officials will receive training on how ICT can be effectively utilized in national disaster management and climate change frameworks.
