UN-APCICT announced on 12 February 2008 that it has signed a Letter of Understanding with the Korea Information Security Agency (KISA) to cooperate and coordinate joint training activities in the area of information security for the Asia-Pacific region.

UN-APCICT announced on 12 February 2008 that it has signed a Letter of Understanding with the Korea Information Security Agency (KISA) to cooperate and coordinate joint training activities in the area of information security for the Asia-Pacific region.

The partnership between UN-APCICT and KISA will specifically entail the development of training material on information security targeted for government officials in developing countries within the Asia Pacific region. UN-APCICT will also collaborate with KISA on the training program related to response and mitigation of cyber incidents which is going to be held in Seoul by KISA.

Mr. Hwang, Joong-Yeon, President of KISA stated that the agreement will enable KISA to share its vast experience within the field of information security with a focus on practical solutions and initiatives that the Republic of Korea has successfully undertaken in recent years.

Dr. Hyeun-Suk Rhee, Director of UN-APCICT noted that the partnership was timely and critical as UN-APCICT has received numerous request from developing countries in the region who are keen to learn best practices and solutions based on the Korean ICT experience. In addition, the partnership also enables the building of appropriate technical capacities within the region in establishing a safer global cyber environment.
